Grow Your Soul Thursday-Thistle Farms & Magdalene

Grow Your Soul Thursday

I was blessed to be introduced by one of my absolute dearest friends in Nashville Nicole who is also an amazing all-natural esthetician to an incredible non-profit call Magdalene. And because they can explain themselves far better than I ever could this is from their site directly...
Magdalene is a two-year residential community founded in Nashville Tennessee in 1997 for women with a history of prostitution and drug addiction. Magdalene was founded not just to help a sub-culture of women, but to help change the culture itself. We stand in solidarity with women who are recovering from sexual abuse, violence, and life on the streets, and who have paid dearly for a culture that buys and sells women like commodities. At no cost, we offer women a safe, disciplined, and compassionate community for two years, paid for by the gifts we receive from individuals and private grants. Magdalene stands as a witness to the truth that in the end, love is more powerful than all the forces that drive women to the streets.

Nicole gave me a great little bath and body package created by the beautiful women at Thistle Farms who are living at Magdalene. Not only does this stuff smell and feel incredible, it's also all natural, kind to the environment and handmade by these amazing women!

Please check out their website here and the next time you're invited to a wedding, baby shower, bridal shower or birthday party...consider giving a gift that gives back to an AMAZING cause!!

They also have a great great blog...

Justin & Maren-A Beautiful Redwood Wedding

A few weeks ago we were given the honor of shooting Justin and Maren's wedding in a gorgeous nature reserve in Saratoga, California. This couple is amazing on so many levels. They are so beautiful both on the outside and very much on the inside. Their whirlwind romance is founded not only in their deep faith but in their natural joy and simple love and adoration they so obviously have for each other!!

I knew from the first meeting with Maren that we were a match. So laid back, so easy going. She told me that her mother made her dress and flowers.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Made them I thought? They had walked by Papersource at Santana Row (LOVE that store by the way-want to own everything in it) and saw paper flower bouquets and fell in love. Her mother saw them and said, well, I can make those out of cloth! Although I had no doubt when Maren told me about them that they would be gorgeous I could never really anticipate how COOL they were!!!

Her wedding party looked like they stepped out of an Anthropologie ad.

and his groomsmen weren't too shabby either

Justin and Maren decided they wanted to see each other before the wedding-always a great choice in a photographer's mind ;) It allows for special special moments right before the ceremony where the bride and groom can come together and take a deep breath...delight in each other and relax-and take lots of great pictures with their bridal party without being rushed and with the freedom to move about and try different things out. So fun!!

Photobucket

And what was so great about this bridal party is they just so genuinely loved these two people. They could not show more obviously their adoration for their two dear friends...

Photobucket

a gorgeous and simple ceremony followed filled with joy & prayer. Justin and Maren took communion together for the first time as husband and wife and were prayed over by their family and friends.

and after that...a very sweet reception filled with laughter and wonderful words of support by all that loved them...

Marriage Communication & Little Sawyer!!!

You know your marriage has reached a new level of intimacy when you are now communicating via shower wall. After nearly falling a number of times when getting into the shower from slipping on shower crayons we've finally put them to good use.

Photobucket

Let's see if he checks yes or no :)

So if you haven't heard by now....and if I know you in real life no doubt you do....my 1 year old fell from the couch last week and hit the coffee table. It was absolutely terrible. She ended up needing 6 stitches in her face and I'll now need 6 years of 1 on 1 therapy. I couldn't even be in the room while they stitched her up because I was on the verge of blacking out. Luckily her Papa and Auntie were there to endure the devastation. Naturally as soon as they were done with her and lifted her up she started smiling again. She's my little trooper.

Post trauma protected from the elements:

my father calls this one: X marks the spot!

And this is yesterday after her stitches came out

Photobucket

my little love bug....looks like she'll be just fine but lord knows I'll never be the same....oh to be a parent...(of a climber!!!!)

and just as example of how cute my mother in law is....she was over 3 minutes after I called her to take care of my terrified 3 year old and while we were at the hospital all day she made sure to put all of her efforts into getting out the copious amounts of blood from mine, luci's and nathan's clothing. Some articles had to be trashed but she was giddy that she saved by night shirt!! She worked hard to make sure this gem survived with just the faintest of stains...and thank GOD for that

;)

Before the trauma that I will forever refer to as The Luci Fall of 2010 I was again thrilled to be photographing one of my favorite client's Sawyer!! Sawyer has an older sister Parker who is equally adorable. P & S's mom Lisa is one of those hip mom's you envision yourself as before you had kids..."I'm gonna keep a cool hairstyle after I have kids! Also, I'm never going to lose my sense of style!" yeah, right...I don't know about you but I fell 10 steps behind modern fashion 10 minutes after my big fat positive pregnancy test. Lisa is the type of mom who rather than doing xmas cards last year, dressed her kiddos up in costumes and hired me to shoot and design her Halloween cards for them (turned out AWESOME by the way!!! got so many compliments on them!!)

Lisa is the type of mom who makes sure that she does a shoot for her kiddos about once every season which I love and is totally my business vision: I know how important photography is for families...it's crucial to have awesome photos of your kids at every season of life that shows their true character and personality! And it's not always enough to do it yourself. I don't know how many mom's I've talked to that say, "gosh I really need to get a good picture of my kids! I have a bunch of snap shots but nothing I would frame!" My goal as a family photographer is to rock out family photos for my client's with a very high level of quality while still being completely affordable. Family photography is an investment, but you shouldn't have to sell your kidney to get it.

That's why I love Simple Shoot's like Sawyer's from last week. The Simple Shoot is awesome for solo pics of a child for parent's who get their children photographed regularly. It's 30 minutes and totally focused on 1 child...in this case, Sawyer (whose mommy by the way let her pick out her clothes for the shoot-another reason she's one of my favorite clients) Who else would pair a long white button down coat with flip flops and a pastel plastic necklace given to her as a gift from her older sister? Love it.

Here's Sawyer and her pup Sydney rockin a vintage vibe in the Almaden Hills

Photobucket

Photobucket

Sawyer is a total goober (which I LOVE) but if you catch her a just the right moment she gives these gorgeous stares...

yes Sydney is wearing a tie...that's just how he rolls...

Thanks again Lisa, Sawyer and Sydney for a fun afternoon!!
